Last night I spent a jolly evening with a fabulous lady I can thank the world of twitter for introducing me too – Hils can be found as Heavenly Bites, and also takes care of Hillstown Farmshops account. Yet another place I keep meaning to visit! Maybe with my new working schedule I will be able to sqidge it in a little easier 🙂

We always spend a long time deliberating over where to spend our catch ups, as they are often few & far between. But settled on Galgorms new Fratelli branch on Great Victoria Street. This beautiful building has not had the best of luck as a restaurant over the past few years – but this fresh start looks to be a good one. They have opened the space up, whilst being sure to keep some of the old features – making for a much more relaxed atmosphere. And, of course, Italian food is one of my Winter picks – comfort food at its best!

On arrival we were offered a jug of water & some bread sticks with dip appeared at the table. Unfortunately the dip wasnt really up to much – but maybe tuna mayo is a tradition nibble in Italy? Not for me Im afraid…. But dont worry, that was the only disappointment of the evening!

We ordered a selection of Cicchetti to start. I highly recommend the garlic prawns, absolutely scrummy – particularly on a chilly evening. To follow we decided on two pizzas to share – The Chinese Roast Duck & the special of the day, which had a selection of salami & Bolognese sauce to top it off. My personal fav was the duck, but both were lovely. And we had plenty left to take home for the boys! I hearty size portion indeed. Though we did hold off a little, as I had heard great things from Hils regarding their mini deserts……

Offering small sweet morsels is guaranteed to impress me – I always want something sweet to round off a meal, and too often the deserts on offer are big and stodgy. Fratelli address this problem by providing little parcels of goodness, just big enough to satisfy those cravings! The mini Tirimasu recieved the thumbs up from me for sure ♥

All in all we had a lovely evening, chatting and enjoying good grub. And on a Monday night, they offer 2 main meals for the price of one – so our 3 course meals, including a glass of wine and a soft drink came in under £40. A fab cure for the Winter blues! Have you been anywhere new recently? What cuisine is your Winter go to?
