Iced Coffee Masterclass with Taylors of Harrogate

Iced Coffee

Remember my iced coffee notions over the past few weeks?

They all kicked off with Jool’s post about cold brew coffee. Wonderfully tasty – and the perfect cocktail companion! But I am not the kind of girl who prepares very well… I’m more of a spur of the moment kinda lassie… Which is why when Taylors of Harrogate invited me to an Iced Coffee Masterclass that promised to teach me how to make top quality iced coffee in a small number of steps I was more than keen.

Of course the fact that the day kicked off with a little adventure gave the Iced Coffee Masterclass added allure. Solo travel always feels a little daring! ✈️

An early start saw me jump on a plan and head to Leeds Bradford Airport. A short wait later and I was in the sweetest of Renault Twingos to spend a few hours exploring before my Iced Coffee Masterclass at Taylors. ( Yes – I did stop in the middle of the road to take this photo 🙄 )

Breakfast Time!

Should any of you ever be in the position of being in and around Leeds Bradford Airport and ravenously hungry, I have a top tip for you. Go to The Local Pantry. Baked 3 little pigs chorizo & smoked back bacon potato cake with a fried free range egg, balsamic glazed leaves. 🍴 YUM!

After a relaxing hour enjoy a peaceful breakfast, I journeyed onward to Taylors of Harrogate. I must say I was surprised by the scale of the operation. Even though I had done some research, and was aware that Taylors of Harrogate is part of Bettys & Taylors Group Ltd; I didn’t realise there is even a Cookery school in the mix. Bettys Cookery School…. Don’t tell me you aren’t day dreaming about the possibility of learning to make some of their wonderous pastries ♥

Iced Coffee Masterclass with Taylors of Harrogate

After a warm welcome our small group of coffee fans were shown to the impressive space in the centre of the office where the coffee tasting takes place. Here we met Krisztina. One of the people responsible for tasting samples of coffee beans when they arrive at Taylors. This helps to maintain the high standards and consistency everyone values. Did you know that each shipment if coffee is tasted at regular intervals to guarantee the quality? Even once it has left its source of origin there are a number of tastings ahead of the beans. They are tasted when they arrive at the port – and again in Taylors, before being excepted and making it into the little bags of goodness!

With over 1000 chemical compounds it takes an experienced palate to identify the intricacies… It’s generally excepted that coffee tasting requires a palate even finer tuned than that of a wine taster.

All this helps to explain why Taylors of Harrogate are so perfectly positioned to create an coffee that has all of the right flavours to enjoy over ice! During our Iced Coffee Masterclass Krisztina talked us through this very simple procedure which allows us, the home brewer, to enjoy barista quality iced coffee at home. AND without the addition of ludicrous amounts of sugar, as some of the highstreet coffee shops do. Oh – and at a fraction the cost of course!

  5. Plug and pour over ice.
  6. Stir until most of the ice has melted.
  7. Serve over fresh ice with an approx measurement of 1/2 coffee 1/2 milk!

I really enjoyed the resulting iced coffee. Proven by my rapid use of the x2 bags I walked away with on the day. Taylors iced coffee is the perfect alternative to the sweet and sickly iced coffee you may be used to. It even passed the coffee addict test by both Jools & Matt ☕️

Watch this space – I might have used it in a few tasty adult treats that are perfect for a Summer afternoon 🍸

Many thanks to Taylors of Harrogate for inviting me on an enjoyable day out! We even went to Betty’s Tearoom. More on that later … In the mean time I would love to hear about your favourite summer drinks. Are you an iced coffee fan? Or do you prefer iced tea?
